What to Expect When Hiring a Newborn Photographer | Stephanie Lynne Photography
What to Expect When You Hire an In-Home Newborn Photographer
When you hire an in-home newborn photographer, you can expect a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for your photo shoot. I am a professional newborn photographer with over 10 years of experience. I will come to your home to capture beautiful, natural images of your new baby. As your newborn photographer, I will work with you to create a custom photo session that suits your preferences and style, and will help you choose the best lighting and background to showcase your beautiful new addition. You can expect to receive high-quality images that capture the innocence, beauty, and love of your newborn. All in the comfort of your own home.
How to Prepare for Your In-Home Newborn Photo Session
To prepare for your in-home newborn photo session, it is important to consider the following:
Room preparation for Your In Home Newborn Photography Session
Choose a room with plenty of natural light and a neutral background. Clean up the room and remove any clutter to ensure that the focus is solely on your new baby. Typically, an in home newborn photographer will focus on the Nursery and the Master bedroom. But from time to time we will use other rooms in the house. Although it is good to “clean up the room,” don’t worry about making it spotless. I can move things out of the way. I understand just having a baby means having boxes of diapers, baby swings, bassinets, etc. All of that stuff is just fine. If it is in the way, I can move it.
Feeding Your Baby Before Your Newborn Photos
The beauty of an in home newborn session is you don’t have to worry about feeding schedules, etc. I am in no rush. I am there to capture your newborn photos on your schedule. If that means you are in the middle of feeding baby when I get there, or baby is due for a feeding within 30 minutes of me being there. That is just fine. If you are nursing and want nursing photos I can capture those while I am there. Otherwise, when your babe is ready for a bottle, you can take a break to give it to them.
What to Wear For Your Newborn Photography Session
Dress your baby in comfortable, simple clothing that will not detract from their innocence and beauty. White or neutral colors work best. If you have an outfit that means something to you, or a favorite swaddle, have that out, too. As a newborn photographer, there are many times I will help pick out clothing that works best after I am in your home. Consider using a special blanket to include in the photos if you have one.
- Pro Newborn Photographer Tip: Keep in mind where you want to display these photos. If you will be displaying these photos in your nursery, consider using coordinating colors for a cohesive look. If they will be in your main living area, where you have more neutral colors, consider using neutral colors.
Family Members Included in Newborn Photography Session
If you would like family members to be included in the photos, make sure they are dressed appropriately and ready to participate. I know that after you welcome a new baby it is likely you will have parents and grandparents in town to visit. I love capturing other family members and pets in your newborn photos.
What to Wear During Your Newborn Session
When it comes to dressing for your in-home newborn photo session, it is important to choose comfortable and simple clothing that will not detract from the focus of the images – your new baby. Neutral colors such as white, cream, or light pastels work best, as they will complement the natural innocence and beauty of your baby. Avoid busy patterns or bright colors, as these can distract from the main subject of the images. As a new mom, your body is changing, don’t worry about the post baby bump that makes you still look 6 months pregnant. We all had it! To be honest, on some days I still look like I’m six months pregnant and my “baby” is 2.5!
How to Choose the Right Newborn Photographer for You
Choosing the right newborn photographer is important to ensure that you receive beautiful, high-quality images that you will treasure for a lifetime. I understand that as an in-home newborn photographer, I am not what everyone is looking for. If you are looking for a newborn photographer that does photos of the babies in baskets, etc, I am not your girl. When choosing a photographer, consider the following:
Newborn Photographer Portfolio
Look at the photographer’s portfolio to get a sense of their style, techniques, and the types of images they specialize in.
Experience of Newborn Photographer
Choose a photographer who has experience working with newborns and understands how to handle them safely and securely.
Communication With Your Newborn Photographer
Look for a photographer who is easy to communicate with, and who takes the time to understand your vision for the photo session.
Cost for a Newborn Photographer
Consider the photographer’s price, but remember that quality should be your top priority. A professional photographer will use high-quality equipment, props, and editing techniques to create beautiful images that you will treasure for a lifetime.
The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Newborn Photographer
Hiring a professional newborn photographer has many benefits, including:
- High-quality images: A professional photographer will use high-quality equipment, props, and editing techniques to create beautiful images that you will treasure for a lifetime.

I know how important these once in a lifetime photos are. I take the time needed to capture what we need. We are on your schedule (and baby’s schedule of course). I am in no rush, and focused more on capturing the best newborn photos we can.

Hi, I’m Stephanie, your Colorado Springs family photographer
I’m so glad you’re here! I am a family photographer with over 10 years of experience specializing in family, maternity, birth, newborn photography and short films.
We probably have a lot in common. I am an Air Force wife and mother to 4 children(and 2 dogs). Most days feel long, but I know the years are short. I am just trying to slow down time and create joyful memories with my family. My mornings usually start with a kid or two waking me up. I start each morning with a cup of coffee. I think the outcome of my day solely depends on if I am able to finish my cup before it gets cold.
