What Is The Best Age For Newborn Photos?
Newborn photography is a timeless and beautiful way to capture the innocence and beauty of a baby’s first days in the world. Newborn photography has become increasingly popular, with many parents opting to capture these fleeting moments to remember this special moment forever. The question that many parents ask is what is the best age for newborn photos? In this blog, I will help you decide when the best time is to schedule your newborn photo session.
When Should I Schedule a Newborn Photographer?
Scheduling a newborn photographer and the day of your newborn photos will likely be pretty spread out. Most newborn photographers prefer you to book them weeks in advance. If you want to guarantee a spot for your newborn session you should likely contact the photographer you love in your second or early third trimester. As a Colorado Springs newborn photographer I will get you secured on my schedule for your due date. But, as we all know, babies don’t like to come on their due dates. In fact, only 5% of babies are born on their due dates. Because of this, I only take a limited number of newborns each month and schedule you for your due date. But, once baby makes their grand entrance we will then schedule a newborn session. Typically this newborn session will be scheduled in the first 2 weeks of life.
How Soon Should You Take Newborn Photos?
Typically newborn photos are captured in the first two weeks after birth. This is because during this time, newborns are typically still curled up in their fetal position and have the adorable, sleepy, and squishy look that is so sought after in newborn photography. Additionally, newborns are still very sleepy and easy to pose during this time, making it much easier for me to capture the perfect sleepy shots. As a lifestyle newborn photographer, you won’t find any babies in a basket photos here, but I still love to capture those individual photos of baby for you. Typically I will “pose” the baby on your bed, in a nursery chair, or somewhere similar. This is a great chance to capture how tiny they are and capture all of their details.
Capturing Newborns Delicate Details
Another reason to take newborn photos during the first two weeks is that, during this time, a baby’s skin is still quite translucent, making it easier to see the delicate details and features that make them so special. It is also during this time that newborns are still very flexible and pliable, making it possible to create some of the cutest and most adorable poses.
Babies Don’t Keep
If you have already had a baby you already know this, but babies don’t keep. They grow too quickly. Isn’t it crazy how even days after delivery they look like a completely different baby. This is also why I like to capture newborn photos in the first two weeks of life. As babies grow, they begin to stretch out and you lose some of that adorable newborn look. While this is a natural part of growth, it means that if you wait too long to take your newborn photos, you might miss the opportunity to capture those fleeting first moments. \
My Baby Is Already Over Two Weeks Old, Will You Still Do Newborn Photos?
Absolutely! I take newborn photos up to six weeks old. Although it can be harder to capture those sleepy photos the photographs are still timeless and beautiful. You will still treasure these photos for a lifetime. The benefit of waiting to do newborn photos is you may capture some of those first smiles. Typically when I have my newborns between 4 and 6 weeks of age I will capture some of those first smiles to Mom and Dad. Isn’t that the best feeling?! The feeling of redemption after probably the hardest month of your life.
Schedule Your Newborn Session Today With a Colorado Springs Newborn Photographer
Although the best age for newborn photos is within the first two weeks of a baby’s life, I will take newborn clients up to 6 weeks of age. If you have not had your baby yet, it is still best to contact me to schedule. Typically I start scheduling clients for their due dates in their second trimester. Once sweet baby is born we will then schedule a newborn session within the first 2 weeks. If you have already had your baby, please still reach out! A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Stephanie
I’m your Colorado Springs Photographer. We probably have a lot in common. Besides being a photographer, I am an Air Force wife and mother to 4 children and 2 dogs. I am not a morning person and have a bad habit of staying up way too late. I start each morning with a cup of coffee and I think the outcome of my day solely depends on if I am able to finish that cup before it gets cold.
