Water Birth at Baby + Co {Denver birth photographer}

Baby & C0 Water Birth Story

As a Denver birth photographer, I am lucky enough to capture many birth stories each year. Photographing the birth of a baby is nothing short of amazing, and this water birth was no different.

When I first chatted with this mama about her birth and what she hoped from her birth photos, and myself as her birth photographer, she mentioned that everyone in her family seemed to labor really quickly and she was thinking she might be the same. She just so happened to be right!

On this beautiful Monday morning, at about 11:30 AM I received a text from her letting me know her contractions had started at about 10:00 AM. They were coming every 3 minutes or so and she said they were getting stronger and closer together very quickly. She said she would keep me posted as she was headed to Baby & CO, her birthing center. Remembering what she said about probably laboring quickly, I decided to go ahead and get things lined up for childcare, grab my camera and get in the car and start heading that way, just in case. I lived about 1.5 hours from the birthing center and didn’t want to risk anything.

At 1:20pm I arrived at Baby & Co and found mama laboring peacefully in her birthing tub. I couldn’t believe how quiet she was being, I would have never known she was in labor. She made it seem like child birth and labor was no big deal. She had her husband there supporting her as well as her mom. I loved that her mom was holding her hand every step of  the way. Within 20 minutes of being there she was ready to push. After only a few great pushes ( and again so peaceful on her end) she delivered her beautiful baby boy at 1:50pm. As she welcomed her son into this world and pulled him out of the water and onto her chest the love and joy on her face was amazing. The bond between her and her husband was so strong as they adored their little boy.

About a hour later it was time to go pick big sister up from school! Because the labor had gone so quickly, she had no idea that she was going to be a big sister that day! Dad left to pick her up and decided not to tell her that her brother made his appearance and rather bring her back to the birthing center and surprise her. He told her they needed to go to the birthing center for a class and when big sister walked in and realized her baby brother was actually laying there in mama’s arm she couldn’t hold back the tears. Her reaction was priceless. She couldn’t believe, it was the sweetest thing to watch.

Welcome to this world, Julian, you are already so loved!

If you are expecting a baby soon, please consider hiring a birth photographer to document your story. I promise you won’t regret it.
