Beautiful Ayla’s Birth
Colorado Springs birth photographer
As a Colorado Springs birth photographer, photographing over 50 births, one thing I have learned is birth is so unpredictable. The day before little Ayla made her appearance her mama had a doctors appointment and it didn’t seem she was dilated at all and no signs of her baby coming anytime soon. I remember her texting me and me thinking, ok she will probably go past her due date. She is a first time mom and with little progression at 38 weeks or so, it isn’t uncommon for mom’s to go past their due dates. That night at about 9:30 I get a text from her husband, her water just broke. Boy was I wrong about her expected arrival. She threw us all for a loop!
The next morning I joined the family at the hospital around 5am. She was progressing nicely and things were on track. I thought for sure we would have a baby by noon. To my surprise, mama got stuck at 6-7 cm for hours. That poor mama was exhausted. As we patiently waited we finally got to meet sweet Ayla that evening around 6:30 or so. And wow, she was worth the wait! With a head full of dark hair like her daddy, she was happy to be in her parents arms.
The best part of this job is witnessing couples welcome their baby. It brings back all the feels to when I delivered my babies. The pure emotion, the best natural high, and all of the love in that room. It truly is the best.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl, Long family!
